Colorado Guided Hunts
As of 2012 I will no longer be running commercial hunts in Colorado but will be happy to put you in contact with a friend that lives in Colorado and is running hunts on the property I used to hunt. Please call if you would like more info.
Mule Deer and Elk Hunts in Red Mesa, Colorado
Our mule deer and elk hunts occur during the archery and muzzleloader seasons, from late August through September. They are held on private ranches located outside of Red Mesa, Colorado. These ranches have very low hunting pressure, and alfalfa, sorgum, and corn crops are planted specifically to attract and hold Mule Deer and Elk.
Please keep in mind that Colorado archery elk tags are available over the counter, but muzzeloader tags for elk and mule deer, as well as all archery mule deer tags are draw tags. The application deadline for all draw tags is at the end of March or beginning of April, so be sure and check the Colorado Division of Wildlife website for exact deadline dates.
Our Elk hunts are 5 day hunts and occur during the rut or bugling season. Because we hunt private ranches, with very little hunting pressure, it's not uncommon to see 4-6 different bulls per day scoring between 275" and 330." Besides seeing a lot of elk one of the biggest advantages to hunting private ranches around Red Mesa is that the terrain is not near as rough and rugged as the high country. If you are looking for a great opportunity to harvest an awesome bull without having to hike, or ride a horse back into the deepest, darkest timber this is the hunt for you.
Mule Deer Hunting
Our Mule deer hunts are 4 day hunts. We mainly hunt from tree stands or ground blinds located on the edge of alfalfa and corn fields but ocasionally a monster mulie will give us the opportunity for a spot and stalk hunt. Because we hunt around food sources it's not uncommon to see 8-10 bucks per hunt scoring between 130" and 170" nor is it uncommon to see 1-2 bucks a season in the 190"-200" range." If you have ever wanted to kill a great mulie with your bow you're not going to find any better opportunity.
For the last 3 years our shot opportunity has been between 95% and 98%, harvesting mule deer scoring over 190" and elk scoring over 300" (Pope & Young). One lucky hunter had a shot at a 200+" mule deer but couldn't connect.
